PHASE 1:How To Prepare Before SAV-A-CEILING® Application
SAV-A-CEILING® Architectural Ceiling Coating
The following pictorial will describe in detail the necessary steps to fully protect the ceiling fixtures, walls, furnishings, merchandise and flooring before the ceiling restoration process can begin using SAV-A-CEILING®, the only ceiling coating available with a Underwriters Laboratories classification for flame spread. Look for the UL seal on the label when choosing a product for your ceiling.
BEFORE: An old, stained and checkerboard look ceiling, with a discolored grid system and HVAC vent covers can be transformed, overnight using SAV-A-CEILING® and the application process that follows.
AFTER: Ceiling tiles, grid and HVAC vent covers are given new life. SAV-A-CEILING® restores all surfaces without damaging the fire rating or acoustical properties of the ceiling. Tiles and grid remain independent of each other and do not become bridged together.
BEFORE: Outdated grid system and stained ceiling tiles in a restaurant.
AFTER: Ceiling restored and looking brand new without business distruption and no down time.
OK lets get started. By the time this pictorial is finished your room/area will look like this.
Step 1: Apply a ribbon of Poly Pro Tape and 1″ Masking Tape at the top of the wall using a Hand Masker that has been converted using the 3M Dual Tac Conversion Kit, pictured below.
Poly Pro Tape
Step 2: Roll out 12′x400′x.35mil High Density sheeting and hang from Poly Pro Tape at the top of the wall.
Note, if the room is too large to complete in one night, a temporary wall can be hung from the ceiling grid system with 2″ Masking Tape.
Step 3: Now that you have covered the walls, it is now time to cover and protect the fixtures on the ceiling that should not receive the ceiling treatment.
Apply 2″ Masking Tape to high hat.
Trim excess tape to rim of high hat.
Mask off fire alrms and sprinkler heads
and other ceiling fixtures using:
Step 5: Protect light lens covers.
Cut Pretaped Masking Film to width of light, reducing width by 1″ on either side to accommodate capping off with 2″ masking tape.
Apply Pretaped Masking film to one side of light and open up.
Cap off Pretaped Masking Film on other 3 sides to seal out over spray.
Pretaped Masking Film also works well on large and unconventional ceiling fixtures.
